Arne Rautenberg was born in Kiel, where he also finished his studies in History of Art, German Studies and Folklore. Currently the author lives and works as a freelance writer in his hometown.

Rautenberg writes essays, short stories, novels and articles, but in the first place he is known for his lyric poetry. His pieces of work appeared in a number of books, a variety of his poems for children were published in German schoolbooks as well.
2013 he begins with the Liliencron Lectureship for Poetics; 2016 he was awarded with the newly founded Josef-Guggenmos Price for his work on children’s poetry. 2017 Rautenberg was accepted to German Academy of Language and Poetry.
