Cristina Sánchez-Andrade was born in Santiago de Compostela; the trained lawyer, literary critic and translator currently lives in Madrid. She is ranked among the leading female authors of contemporary Spanish literature. Her work includes eight novels and was translated into English, Portuguese, Italian, Polish and Russian. Die Wintermädchen (Las Inviernas / The Winterlings) was the first of her novels that was translated into German (published by Thiele Verlag in 2016).

Her work has been awarded with several prizes, as e.g. the renowned Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz-Prize for Ya no pisa la tierra tu rey. The author sees herself as a committed Galician. According to the Galician poet Manuel Rivas Cristina Sánchez-Andrade is one of the most extraordinary and inventive voices in Spanish literature.
