OPEN CALL for residencies in Krems an der Donau 2025

AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria offers temporary living and working opportunities of at least one  month in Krems an der Donau for artists from the fields of building culture, visual arts, digital art, literature and music.

Requirements for the scholarship
The studio apartments and scholarships are awarded under the premise of enabling foreign artists to work in Lower Austria and to get to know different cultural institutions in this state. By bringing the invited foreign artists into contact with the local art scene, AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria aims to contribute to the internationalization of art in our country and promote a process of interdisciplinary exchange in the field of art. Since the international exchange is primarily realized on an institutional level, private applications can only be accepted in the course of our annual call for applications.

The basic prerequisite for funding is a subject-specific completed artistic education (university degree). In the absence of an academic degree, a corresponding qualification must be demonstrated through the artistic career. In any case, regular artistic activity in the areas to be funded must be present. Applications from the disciplines of architecture, visual arts, digital arts, literature and music will be accepted. Austrian artists and artists residing in Austria are excluded from the award.

Participation in AIR - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE Lower Austria will be decided by a subject-specific advisory board.

Applications are possible from  4th March -  30th April, 2024 23:59 exclusively via our online application tool.

Notification of a scholarship place will be sent by e-mail by the end of June 2024.

No applications will be accepted by e-mail.
Submitted application material will not be returned.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please note: Artist collectives are welcome to apply. However, the scholarship amount of €1,300 remains unaffected.

Services
A studio and accommodation are provided free of charge. In addition, the scholarship holders receive a monthly stipend of €1,300.

The costs for travel to and from the studio, transfers, materials and meals must be covered by the scholarship holders themselves.

There are opportunities to present the artistic works developed in Krems or planned in advance on site.  In general, AIR events are realized in cooperation with various Lower Austrian and Viennese art institutions with the aim of achieving a long-term anchoring of AIR projects in the annual program of these institutions and to temporarily integrate the scholarship holders into the local art scene in this way as well.

AIR is an attendance scholarship (80% attendance requirement).

Partners, children, family members and friends cannot be accommodated in the accommodation during the scholarship stay.
