Vanda Rozenbergová

Born in Bojnice, the author studied journalism at Comenius University in Bratislava. She has published four novels and numerous short stories, making her one of the most well-known contemporary authors in Slovakia. In addition to her work as a writer, she also works as an illustrator.

Her novel Tri smrtky sa plavia (“Three Dead Float”) published by Slovart in 2018 was nominated for the prestigious Slovak literary award Anasoft litera in 2019. The German translation (by Zorka Ciklaminy) was published by Drava Verlag; they recognize in the author not only literary finesse but also a high degree of social commitment:

"Vanda Rozenbergová has (...) written a moving family story, whose linguistic lightness contrasts with the dark undertone of the novel. By addressing the position of the Roma within Slovak society frankly, the book also makes an important socio-critical statement."

Empathy and compassion are not only evident in Vanda Rozenbergová's literature – alongside her work as an author, she also organises summer camps for orphans and children from difficult family circumstances. A little girl in one of these holiday camps was the inspiration for her novel.
